PHS Awarded NATA Safe Sports School Designation

by | Mar 11, 2019

Prescott High School was recently awarded the Safe Sports School designation from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Trenton James, our Certified Athletic Trainer, completed all the requirements in order to be awarded this designation. It is a great recognition for PHS, Trenton, and many of our local doctors, physical therapists, and health care providers who help to make our student athletes safe each day. In order to attain the designation, schools must do the following:

  • Create a positive athletic health care administrative system
  • Provide or coordinate pre-participation physical examinations
  • Promote safe and appropriate practice and competition facilities
  • Plan for selection, fit function and proper maintenance of athletic equipment
  • Provide a permanent, appropriately equipped area to evaluate and treat injured athletes
  • Develop injury and illness prevention strategies, including protocols for environmental conditions
  • Provide or facilitate injury intervention
  • Create and rehearse venue-specific Emergency Action Plan
  • Provide or facilitate psycho social consultation and nutritional counseling/education
  • Be sure athletes and parents are educated of the potential benefits and risks in sports as well as their responsibilities

PHS is very proud of Trenton and all the work he does to help our student athletes be prepared each day for participation in athletics at Prescott High School. Please congratulate Trent on this award!
