Hello PUSD Families!

In an effort to keep you informed of the district’s activities to continue to provide distance learning to your children and connect your family with community resources, we will be sending you regular update emails.

We were probably as surprised as you were in the governor’s announcement of school closure for the rest of the school year! This school closure means that students may not return to classrooms in our buildings, but districts are still asked to provide distance learning opportunities to families. Please know that we understand this is difficult for families. Our teachers are working hard to 1) learn the best ways to teach through distance learning, 2) provide flexibility to families, and 3) develop big picture outcomes for students.

We know there are many questions about end-of-year ceremonies and activities, locker and desk clean out, grading, summer school, and more. We are working hard to develop answers to these questions. Some of these answers require guidance from the state and input from other organizations. We will provide information as soon as we can and appreciate your patience.

Community Support
We are grateful to our community for their support. Many organizations continue to reach out with offers of help. Please visit the PUSD website for more info. Also, don’t forget YRMC’s Partners for Healthy Students for free medical services for students. More information can be found here.

Continued Education for Students through Distance Learning
PUSD teachers are providing distance learning opportunities to all classes. Here is a guide for parents on how to use Google classroom – Parents Guide to Google Classroom. For students without devices, you may request work packets from teachers. Look for information from teachers regarding when and where to pick these packets up. The Governor has indicated that PK-12 learning is an essential activity and going out to get Distance Learning assignments is permitted (AZ Executive Order 2020-18, Section 4a).

Beginning Wednesday, we will also be checking out Chromebooks to students. Chromebooks may be picked up at PHS according to the following schedule:

Wednesday, April 1st -12 pm to 4 pm
Thursday, April 2nd – 12 pm to 4 pm
Friday, April 3rd – 8 am to 10 am
April 6th and on – by appointment

We will be checking out one Chromebook per two students in a family. Parents need to be present to check out the Chromebook on the child’s behalf and sign a loan agreement. We will also be taking a copy of the parent’s Driver’s License and share directions on how to use the Chromebook.

Take a look at this very cool website created by two of our students for learning activities at home! We have very talented students in our district.

Food Resources
PUSD’s Food Service is providing free breakfasts and lunches to ALL children 18 and under. (Children do not have to be PUSD students, so spread the word.) We are serving drive up meals at Lincoln and PHS from 10 am to 1 pm, M-F. Children do not have to be present, so feel free to pick up food for a neighbor who can’t get out. Also, see the PUSD Website for mobile ordering options.

Child Care Resources
Thank you to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Arizona and the YMCA for providing child care options for children of parents working in certain essential fields. See these organizations’ websites for more information.
