Student Retention Procedures


According to Governing Board policy, the decision to retain a kindergarten student will be made by the teacher after careful consideration of factors that are in the best interest of the student.

Students in grades 1-5 will be considered for retention in their present grade if they have fewer than 38 points from their 3rd quarter report card, based on the weighted point formula.

Students will be retained in their present grade for academic failure (38 points or less) unless there are serious extenuating circumstances, such as age, phyciasl and emotional maturity, primary language, special education needs, etc. All decisions will be made in accordance with the provisions in Board Policy I.9.5.
