Philosophy
The educational program at Washington Traditional School emphasizes the teaching of content through basic skills, facts, principles, and ideas. This approach enables the learner to gain and analyze information to deal with new problems and unfamiliar situations.
Washington School, with its strong focus on content-rich study, is not a place for strictly memorizing facts. Instead, our elementary educational program gives students an opportunity to gain a basic command of reading and writing, mathematics and science, history and geography, and music, art, and physical education.
It is a place to train the student’s intellect, instill a desire to achieve challenging goals, and perform to the best of each child’s ability.
Our school-wide standards require high expectations in academic performance, behavior, and dress with a reasonable amount of personal freedom.
The staff continually reinforces the fundamental importance of honesty, self-discipline, responsibility and respect for self and others.
We believe that home life and the parents play a major role in the implementation of a successful school program. Therefore, it is necessary for the parents and the school to work closely together to help students achieve their highest potential.
