Week of September 15-18

This week we will work on how the moon formed, and what is flying around in space.  We will do an art project on the moon’s formation and collect micro-meteorites. We will research the different objects flying around and try to understand how they are different and similar.  The paper “Asteroids, Meteors and Comets” that we will use on Thursday 9/18 with laptops can be downloaded.

 

Week:  September 8-12

 
 


This week, we will focus on earth’s moon.  This will include phases and eclipses.  There will be 2 homeworks and a quiz this week.  Hwk #4 and side 2 and Hwk#5 and side 2 can be found linked here soon.  The quiz will be on: gravity, inertia and the moon.  Notes will be allowed on the quiz!

Week:  September 2-5

 
 


This week we will continue our study of the effect the tilted axis has on earth, study the phases of the moon and think about tides and eclipses.  Homework will be the graphs “Temperatures around the World?” (due Wednesday 9/3) and “Daylight Hours around the World” (due on Friday 9/5).  You should have time in class for most of this work.  Sorry, I can’t hyperlink them here since they are not digital, but they are available in my classroom.

 

Week:  August 25-29

 
 

 


This week we will focus on Introducing Astronomy.  Homework #3 will be due on Friday 8/29 and can be found on the link here.

This week we will focus on the experiment and understanding the scientific Method!

We will be working on various forms of measurement this week.  On Monday students will be given a packet called: Metric Measurement: Length.  This is not available in digital format, but there are extra copies in my classroom.  We will work on this in class on Tuesday.  The questions that follow the active part of the lab will be this week’s homework #2, due on Thursday.  I will grade this packet carefully, so be sure to use complete sentences and produce a good quality product.

 

Week: August 4 - 8

Pages 3-6 will be most useful to students, and is the copy I will give you in class.  Worksheet 1 will be done in class with groups. FINAL EXAM STUDY GUIDE can be downloaded and printed.

Homework #4 has 2 sides:  side 1 and side 2.  It was due Thursday 5/1

Homework 3 is all about faults (no it’s not your fault!)  It is two sided, was given on Monday 4/14 and is due on Wednesday 4/16.  Side a and side b can be downloaded.

Homework #2 is 2 sides.  It was given Friday 3/29 and is due Tuesday 4/1.  Side A and Side B.

Homework #5 (given Tuesday 2/12 and due Thursday 2/14) is about diamond kimberlites and can be found in the classroom in the homework 5 folder.

Homework #4 (sorry not available here) is about minerals and requires you read pages 400-407 in your HOMEBOOK with the Dinosaurs on it.  Given Tuesday 2/5, due Thursday 2/7.  Available in my room.

Homework #3 relates to H-R Diagrams of stars and is not available online.  There are copies in the classroom in the homework 3 file.

Homework#2 was to go out and stargaze with your skywheel.  There are copies of that homework and pages to make a skywheel in the classroom.

“Create-A-Myth” this is the 2nd part of the constellation project.  It is due on Thursday 1/17.

Homework #1, given Mon 1/7 and due Wednesday 1/9, is called “A Trip Through the Universe” and will familiarize you with the universe, if that is possible!  It is available here for you to print out “Trip Through the Universe”

The Constellation stargazing project Homework #2 can be found here.  It was given Tuesday 1/8 and due Thursday 1/10, giving you 2 nights to get it done.  It will require your StarWheel, or page 794 in your home dinosaur book, a good dark spot and about 15 minutes of your time.

Choose your constellation (Part 1 of constellation project) and research it.  Create-a-Myth (Part 2 of constellation project).  Both parts are due on Tuesday 1/15.

 

Text Box: ISS computer lab project link!2nd Quarter!

Final 2nd quarter project will be done almost entirely in class and is about the International Space Station also known as ISS (no, not in school suspension).  Click on the pink box above to pull it up during or after class!  If you are absent for this project due to illness or an early departure for the holidays, you are still responsible for doing the work.  Your product will be ALL THE ANSWERS to ALL THE QUESTIONS written out completely.

Homework #6 (given Wed 12/5 and due Friday 12/7) is about ROCKETS.  Find a copy of PART of it here.  The pages in the Astronomy book to use are pg. 42-43 and were copied and stapled to the question page when given out.  I cannot hyperlink those pages here, but you can sign out a book or get another copy from my classroom. Page one of Homework#6 is here.  Page 2 of homework 6 is here.  Also, you were to answer the 4 questions on the Math Analyzing Data section on page 43.

 

Homework #5 is called Weight in Space and is not available as a hyperlink as it is copied from an old but cool book of mine.  There are spare copies in my classroom in the Homework file.  It is two sided, but you only need to complete the front side (where you find space for your name) as the back is really a repeat of some of the steps you will take on the front.  Make sense?!

Guided reading for pages 16-19 is here.  This was done in class on 11/20 and related to our work on gravity, motion and inertia.  It is also referred to as REVIEW HOMEWORK for the week we return from Thanksgiving.  It is due on Tuesday 11/27 and is worth 20 points.

Homework #4 is a graphing page that I can not hyperlink here.  It was about daylight hours around the world and allows us to see how the various countries at various latitudes experience differing hours of daylight because of their location on the globe. It was given November 15th and was due the 16th, and used on the Seasons Quiz.

“Latitude/Longitude” is from a workbook on mapping.  It cannot be hyperlinked here.  We worked on it in class Thursday 11/8 and anything left over was assigned as homework due Friday 11/9.  There are spare copies in my room, AND you can sign out a mapping book there too.

Homework #3 cannot be hyperlinked.  It was a survey given Tuesday 11/6 and we compiled data in class to graph on Wednesday 11/7.  There are copies in my room.

10/29 – homework #2 is HERE!  Yippy!  If you are the group final typist, you are excused from homework #2, but you must turn in your final paper before school on Wednesday so that I have time to copy it for your classmates.  I will be here at 7:30 am! 

You will receive a study guide on Wednesday for your test on Friday.  The best way to start to prepare is to look over your science notebook at your terms, reread all your class notes and look through your homework.

 

The conservationist project has two stages – stage 1 is individual research, where you will work on the backside of the assignment sheet, filling it out with notes you find on your conservationist.  Stage 2 begins with your group pooling your information and synthesizing what your learned.  Then your group will start on the writing portion.  See the full assignment description here for details and a downloadable project sheet and here for the notes template.   

Take Home Energy Test is given on Friday 10/19 and due back on Thursday the 25th.  It can be downloaded and copied here.  Your job is to draw and label a plan for running a household on alternative (renewable) power, and write out some answers to questions.  Use what you learned from your group and each other’s presentations!  This can be one page or several.  Don’t forget to do it!  This is a TEST and is worth 80 points.  Good luck.

Pronghorn week will allow us to focus on one local population of animals and see how all the dynamics in an ecosystem interact.  During this week, we will be collecting information, ideas and data, which will all be kept, in our notebook.  We will have Hwk#7, due on Friday, which will be assessed next week after we finish the unit.  Here is the week’s assignment sheet.

First Quarter Assignments (August – October)

Homework #1 was given on August 12 by Mr. Haggerty.  It was a three question page about the assembly.

 

Homework #2 was given Monday 8/21 and due Wednesday 8/23.  It was called “Looking at the Sky”.

 

Homework #3 was given on Monday 8/28 and due Tuesday 8/29.  It is a study guide for Tuesday’s quiz.  A copy can be found here: Earth, Moon, Sun: study guide

 

Homework #4 will get you outside again but this time to look at the MOON.  Given 9/5, due Thursday 9/7.  Go to Homework 4 - looking at the moon to download and print a new copy.

Homework #6 (given on Tuesday 9/19) is to read pg. 48-56 in the TAKE HOME textbook with the dinosaur on the cover, called “Earth Science”.  This section is called a Trip Through the Universe.  On page 57 there is a box with questions.  Answer them all in your science notebook.  This is due Wednesday 9/20.
