6th Grade 9 week Computer Mini Class

In 6th grade I try to cover all the basics of computers that they may have missed in elementary school.  Since we have three main schools that we get our students from, not all the students have the same background in computers.  My goal is to bring all the kids up to the same level of understanding, hoping that all learn something as we go along!

We do four weeks of Keyboarding skills, just enough so that the students will practice using the correct fingers and know the correct placement.

One week of Excel Spreadsheet.  The fundamentals and what a spreadsheet does.

One week of Access Database.  They get to create a database and then search for the culprit of a crime!

One week of wordprocessing using Word. In this assignment they kids really get to use a lot of the more common buttons that they probably haven’t used before while they create a poster.

One week of learning the Draw toolbar in Word.  There are so many fun things to do with this that they students will be able to use for other classes.  They will be creating a cartoon when they are finished.

One week of learning how to search on the internet and internet safety.  This is the basic skills the students will need to know for the rest of their school years.

7th grade Computer Applications

We will be building web pages using DreamWeaver8.  This is a program that the professionals use!  You will be able to view their web pages from this website in the near future, just click on the Student Area link.

Photoshop CS2 will be used also to change images and pictures and create really cool projects.  This is the program that magazines use to doctor up their pictures.

8th grade Keyboarding  Happy_1

Keyboarding is a required class now in the middle schools.  The kids will be learning the correct finger placement, and also the correct formatting for letters, reports, announcements, tables and memos.  We will learn the ins and outs of Microsoft Word, so that by the time they leave they are typing AT LEAST 30 words per minute, and have a solid knowledge of wordprocessing.   The students will also receive career guidance, focusing on the high school level courses they have interests in.
