CURRICULUM
MATH
Middle Grades
Mathematics, published by
Prentice Hall, is developed specially for middle-grade students.
Middle Grades Mathematics is a
student-centered program.
It incorporates active learning and
problem solving. The program uses real-life situations to help students
experience math now.
Our goal as educators is to build a
partnership with family and community members. Through a partnership we can
pool our mathematical knowledge,
experience and resources
for the betterment of our students.
Throughout the school year, you will be invited to participate in mathematics
through school events, correspondence,
and home/school projects.
Every child is required to keep a
math notebook. A three ring binder with lined papers or a spiral notebook will
be OK. This notebook will help the
students with homework, organization
and reviewing of skills for test.
Homework will be assigned most
every day. Please the school web site and/or the homework hotline to monitor your
child’s progress.
Every child will take a District
Assessment Test (CRT) at least twice a year. At the beginning of the year, the
test will be used as a diagnostic tool and
at the end of the year; it will be
used for class placement. In April, every child will take the state mandated
AIMS test. This year, we will also use a
Benchmark test at the end of each
quarter.
You may check out the state math
standards on the web, at the Prescott Schools web site or the Arizona State
Department of Ed. Web site. I will be
covering everything on the
standards and more throughout the year.
In order for your child to receive additional help
with math, I will be offering after school homework club two days a week on
Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:15 - 4:15 P.M.
