Granite Mountain Middle School will again host an “on-site” and “on-line” summer school (grades 6-8) under the direction of David Hunt.
Required make-ups are determined as follows: Students failing Language Arts and/or Social Studies will be required to take (and pass) Odyssey Language Arts; students failing Math and/or Science will be required to take (and pass) Odyssey Math. Students whose grades require them to make up two classes will be allowed to attend from 8:00-12:00, while students requiring only one make-up will be allowed to attend ONLY ONE two-hour session per day. (One make-up requires 30 hours on Odyssey, and two make-ups require 60 hours.) Attendance in the summer school can also remove the “no pass – no play” restriction for sports for students who receive an "F" during the 4th quarter.
Summer school is open to students from all area middle schools for students required to attend. Students may also opt to take summer school on an "enrichment" basis to keep or advance their skills in Math or Language Arts. The curriculum is tied to the Arizona State Standards.
The cost of each 30-hour session is $75, plus a one-time registration fee of $10. Checks should be made payable to GMMS. All fees will qualify for an Arizona School tax credit (subject to an annual limit of $400 per couple filing jointly). Classes will be closed for the on-site sessions when the number of paid applicants equals the number of available computers in our two labs.
The summer school on-line option will be available 24 hours a day from May 27 until June 20. Students taking advantage of this option MUST have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection (cable, DSL, or satellite), an active email address, and MUST be supervised by an adult while completing the required hours on Odyssey. The supervising adult will be required to track student work daily and submit a completed log of that work to GMMS by June 23, 2008.
Please refer questions and submit registration to Davd Hunt in the GMMS administration building from 2:00 PM until 3:45 PM daily, or by email at david.hunt@prescottschools.com. The GMMS office number is 717-3253, extension 105.
