Tech Prep
Prescott High School is a member of the Yavapai County Tech Prep Consortium. Tech Prep is a program that combines high school and community college occupational programs in a non-duplicative sequence that allows students to earn college credit while still in high school.
Prescott High School currently has articulated six Tech Prep programs with Yavapai College. Successful completion of Tech Prep articulated courses with a “B” or better entitles the named student to receive credit at Yavapai College if the following conditions are met:
--Student must graduate from the high school where the credit was earned;
--Student must earn at least a “B” in each of the high school articulated courses;
--Student must enroll at Yavapai College within two years after high school graduation;
--Student must apply for Tech Prep status at Yavapai College at the time application for admission is made to the college;
--Student must meet and maintain all entrance standards, prerequisites, and academic standards of Yavapai College and intended program(s) of study;
--Student must successfully complete a minimum of six credit hours at Yavapai College in required credits for the articulated program. (Independent study, cooperative education, internship or practicum courses do not count as part of the six credit hour minimum requirement.
While Yavapai College will award credit for courses identified in this articulation agreement and as specified by the Yavapai County Tech Prep Consortium Agreement, the credit is not necessarily transferable to other colleges and universities. Students are strongly advised to meet with a a program adviser at the college or university they plan to attend, since transfer credit is awarded according to the credit acceptance policies of the transfer institution.
The maximum amount of Tech Prep credit that can be earned while in high school is 9 college credit hours.
Successful completion of the high school portion of the Tech Prep program will become part of the student’s permanent record and will be forwarded to Yavapai College upon request by the student. This can be done by requesting the instructor of the articulated class to complete one of the yellow Certificate of Credit Award forms. The student then takes this form to the PHS registrar who will forward it along with an official transcript to the the appropriate Yavapai College campus for the completion of transfer of articulated credit.
The following courses have been articulated with Yavapai College. For more information, contact Sherry Baca, PHS Tech Prep Liaison, or Judy Martinez, PHS Advisor.
