PSAT
What is the PSAT/NMSQT?
This test measures critical reading, math reasoning, and writing skills. The PSAT is a great practice test for the SAT Reasoning Test and measures knowledge and skills developed through years of study in a wide range of courses as well as through experiences outside the classroom. It is slightly shorter and easier than the SAT, so it is a good introduction to college entrance tests. A detailed score report will be generated by College Board, and counselors will review the test results with students. To learn more about the PSAT visit www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/about.html.
Who should take the PSAT?
The junior year is the only year that students are eligible to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program, so juniors who tend to score high on standardized testing should definitely take the PSAT. College-bound juniors and sophomores will also benefit taking the PSAT as their scores will likely be higher on the SAT from taking this as a practice test.
Do I take the test at Northpoint?
Since Northpoint is not an approved test site this year, NELA students must take the PSAT at either PHS or BMHS. Our neighboring high schools did not order tests for our students so it is very important that our students register and pay by Friday, September 5, 2008 so that additional test can be ordered. The money and names will be given to the school where you choose to test. You will then receive test preparation materials.
When is the test given?
The test will be given on Saturday, October 18th 2008 from 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. You must test at the school you signed up for (either PHS or BMHS).
What is the test fee?
The fee for 2008 is $13 if taken at Prescott High School and $15 if taken at Bradshaw Mountain High School.
What should I bring?
You should bring your ID, three pencils, and a calculator.
Whom can I contact if I have questions?
You can contact Ramie.liddle@prescottschools.com , counselor at NELA.
In addition, you can contact the PSAT/NMSQT office if you have questions, comments, or suggestions about test registration, administration, or score reports.
