GRADE 9 FIELD WORK RETURN AND INFO
Geneva Saint-Amour 10/17/08
Hello:
I am pleased to report that the kids are doing really, really well up North! I drove up to see them on Wednesday. They were preparing dinner in the park at Canyon de Chelly. I enjoyed some yummy pasta with broccoli in it, prepared by student chefs. Then they headed to the high school to work on their field work journals and watch a movie. The next morning was an early one, preparing for a long day ahead!
I believe they will return a little earlier than previously stated. It sounds like they expect to be in the area between 4 and 5 pm. They will be sharing cell phones and calling for rides. I understand that a group is meeting in PV as they pass by. Kids will call.
Please remember that your child will be hungry, thirsty and tired from four really busy days. Please encourage them to hydrate by drinking lots of water, and eat a good meal. Then an early bed time would be advised. They will have dirty belongings to be cleaned up and stored for the next trip, also. Self-responsibility is a critical part of the success of these field work experiences. Please let this be a learning opportunity in that regard as well.
IF you see a bright pink, spiral bound collection of paperwork….save it!! This field work journal is the compilation of assignments that will be necessary to earn credit for this valuable experience. Students will be handing that work in and using it to create additional work for the semester. The field work journals are documentation for fieldwork and should always be preserved for grading.
Thanks for your support of our expeditionary learning programs.

MOUNTAIN REPORT
Geneva Saint-Amour 08/20/08
Hello all:
I am happy to report that all is well on Mingus Mountain. Aside from a few minor blisters and scrapes the students are well-fed, rested, exercised and challenged. They are all safe and tonight they are dry. There has been all types of weather from rain to shine!! Thank you so much for entrusting us with your child for this important event. It has been exciting to prepare for and even more exciting to participate in.
We will return to the Northpoint campus on Friday before the end of the school day. When we arrive we must gather in a large circle on the lawn to debrief and process the week. Please do not let your child see you until we have completed this part of the journey. Once we break from the circle, students may take their items and leave with their rides. Check for loose belongings....our lost and found often grows at this time of year.
Remember to review the light green wilderness packet that was issued during registration. It contained tips for rehydrating, rest and emotional care for the smelly, tired teenagers that are returning home to you on Friday.
Again I say, thank you!
