This is an invitation for you to attend our annual Art opening celebrating Youth Art Month. Prescott Visual Art teachers are very proud to have on exhibit over 1000 works of PUSD student’s art throughout Prescott.
March has been designated Youth Art Month nationally since 1961. Prescott has always displayed student art but it was in the late 1970’s when then art coordinator Anne Sullivan envisioned a unified K-12 art show. Ponderosa Mall (newly constructed) became our first home for this district show. When I took over as coordinator in the early 80’s, we began a very long and positive relationship with Yavapai College to exhibit our student’s art there. Once the Performance Center was built we were offered the foyer, which we enjoy immensely. Our students’ artwork is visited by thousands of Prescott residents and visitors from out of state and even foreign countries.
Not only do we display at Yavapai College, we also hang at The Prescott Unified District Office and at Prescott High School in our own Ruth Street Gallery. Each month, throughout the school year, the elementary and middle school teachers hang rotating shows in several locations.
We invite you to the opening reception of YAM, which is Monday March 1, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Yavapai College Performing Arts Center. Please stop by, view the student’s artwork, and see the product of a sequential, unified art program, sign our guest book and enjoy the punch and cookies!
YAM show will be available from March 1 through March 29, 2010, whenever the Performance Hall is open.
