TIP Kits

 
The North Central Arizona Mathematics and Science Consortium has put
together several TIP (Topic Intensive Program) kits to help teachers teach science concepts. Below are descriptions of the kits, the grade levels for which they are appropriate, and what science performance objectives they cover. Bees TIP Kit :

This kit is appropriate for:
Grade K, Strand 4, Concept 2, PO 1, Concept 3, PO 1,2,3.
Grade 1, Concept 1, PO 1,2,3.
Grade 2, Strand 4, Concept 1, PO 1, Concept 2, PO 1.

This kit contains a GEMS unit on honeybees, a folder of master copies on honeybee material, a laminated labeled worker bee, and drawing materials for students.

Frogs TIP Kit :

This kit is appropriate for:
Grade K, Strand 4, Concept 2, PO 1; Concept 3, PO 1,2,3.
Grade 2, Strand 4, Concept 2, PO 3; Concept 3, PO 1,2,3.

This kit contains a Teachers' Guide to Frog Math with frog counters and student sets, a primary level thematic unit on frogs, various catalogs, and a frog puppet.

Insects TIP Kit:

 
This kit is appropriate for:
Grade K, Strand 4, Concept 1, PO 1.
Grade 1, Strand 4, Concept 1, PO 1, 2, 3.
Grade 2, Strand 4, Concept 1, PO 1; Concept 2, PO 1.

This kit contains the GEMS units Hide-a-Butterfly, Ladybugs and Ant Homes, AIMS unit on Critters, several insect activities integrated with mathematics, and primary level field guides.

Rocks TIP Kit:

 
This kit is appropriate for:
Grade 1, Strand 6, Concept 1, PO 1, 2.
Grade 3, Strand 6, Concept 1, PO 2,3.
Grade 7, Strand 6, Concept 1, PO 1; Concept 2, PO 2.

It contains a variety of printed materials for teacher resource and /or student use, and classroom sets of rock and mineral samples. This kit is an excellent starter or elaboration resource for all rock/mineral, geology and earth science units.

Astronomy Kit:

 
This kit is appropriate for:
Grade 5, Strand 6, Concept 3, PO 1, PO 2, PO 4, PO 5, PO 6
Grade 7, Strand 6, Concept 3, PO 1, PO 2, PO 4, PO 5, PO 6

It contains a Teacher's Guide, color transparencies, masters for classroom activities plus all the equipment needed for these activities. Also included is a telescope, planisphere and a guide for finding galaxies, nebulas, star clusters, etc.

Weather Kit:

 
This kit is appropriate for:
Grade K, Strand 6, Concept 3, PO 1, PO 2, PO 3
Grade 1, Strand 6, Concept 3, PO 1, PO 2
Grade 2, Strand 6, Concept 3, PO 1, P0 2, PO 3, PO 4
Grade 3 (no Standard -- material grade appropriate)

Grade 5 (no Standard -- material grade appropriate)

It contains weather materials, various different level thematic units, thermometers, cloud chart, rain gauge, tornado tube, Jeppesen Sanderson Meterology Suitcase Kit (grade K-4), Teacher's Guide, Cassette tapes, weather photos, wall chart and overhead projector for weather map set.

Orienteering Kit:

 
This kit is appropriate for grade levels 3,4,5,6,7 -- Inquiry

This kit is a starter resource for measurement and recording of scientific date in relationship to locating positions and mapping. The kit has activities for using compasses and drawing maps using graph paper.
