Toshiba America Foundation Grants Program for K-6 Science and Math Education
Eligibility: K-6 teachers
Value: Up to $1,000 per award

The mission of Toshiba America Foundation is to promote quality science and mathematics education in U.S. schools. Grants are made for programs and activities that improve teaching and learning in science and mathematics. The foundation focuses its grant making on inquiry-based projects designed by individual teachers, and small teams of teachers, for use in their own classrooms.

Funds To Use Music In Math Lessons
Grant Title: Using Music to Teach Mathematics
Organization: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
Eligibility: Grades K-2 teachers
Value: Up to $3,000
Deadline: November 2, 2007

The purpose of this grant is to incorporate music into the elementary school classroom to help young students learn mathematics. The applicant must be a current NCTM member or teach in a school with a current NCTM membership, and currently teach mathematics or collaborate with teachers of mathematics in grades K–2. Activities are to be completed between June 1, 2008, and May 31, 2009.

Grants to Help Students Understand Geometry
Grant Title: Improving Students' Understanding of Geometry Grants
Organization: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
Eligibility: Grades K-8
Value: Grants up to $3,000
Deadline: November 2, 2007

The purpose of this grant is to develop activities that will enable students to better appreciate and understand some aspect of geometry that is consistent with the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics of NCTM. For 2008–2009, grants with a maximum of $3,000 each will be awarded to persons currently teaching full time at the grades K–8 level. The project should include applications of geometry to, for example, art, literature, music, architecture, nature, or some other relevant area and may integrate the use of technology into the teaching of geometry. The activities may use published materials. Any published sources must be documented. Proposals must address the following: geometry content, the appropriateness of the application, the link between the Geometry Standard and the project's activities, and the anticipated impact on students' learning. The applicant must be a current NCTM member or teach at a school with a current NCTM membership. Project activities are to be completed between June 1, 2008, and May 31, 2009.

President's Environmental Youth Awards
Since 1971, EPA has sponsored the President's Environmental Youth Awards. The program recognizes young people across America for projects which demonstrate their commitment to the environment. Young people in all 50 states and the U.S. territories are invited to participate in the program.

Projects submitted in the past have covered a wide range of subject areas including recycling programs in schools and communities; construction of nature preserves; major tree planting programs; videos, skits, and newsletters created by students that focused on environmental issues; and environmental science projects. To be eligible to compete, a student or students, sponsored by an adult, must submit to their local EPA regional office evidence of a completed project as defined in the President's Environmental Youth Award application, as well as a completed application.

Funds for K-12 Science and Math Programs

Grants are made for programs and activities that improve teaching and learning in science and mathematics in grades K-12. The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on inquiry-based projects designed by individual teachers, and small teams of teachers, for use in their own classrooms. The application deadline for K-6 grants is October 1, annually. Grade 7-12 grant requests of up to $5,000 are accepted at any time.

The deadlines for requests over $5,000 are February 1 and August 1, annually.
