Promotion from Mile High
A promotion certificate will be issued by the Board of Education to those students who have successfully completed the academic requirements for moving to the next level or attended summer school successfully. The principal reviews all pending cases.
Eighth grade promotion is a prime example of the collaborative efforts of families and teachers as we help students to build student memories of Mile High. Ten years ago, Georgia Davidson spearheaded an effort to enhance our promotion ceremony so that it became a more family friendly activity and accentuated the importance of being promoted from eighth grade; many of our students at that time were the first to “graduate” from eighth grade and go on to high school.
The PTA, a team of teachers, and our principal at the time, Jay Collier, designed the first promotion ceremony to be held at Hendrix Auditorium. The program has been enhanced to include a theme, slide show of students’ baby and current pictures engineered by Steve Pierce, and student selected procession and recession music. Over the years, we’ve had motivational speakers and programs planned by Mark Baker, computer technology teacher.
Students look forward to participating in the promotion activity, and the faculty and staff still get misty-eyed every year at the ceremony.
