Mile High's extracurricular activities offer a variety of choices for students. Activities offered include:

(Student Council, yearbook, and National Junior Honor Society are offered as elective classes.)

Mile High Clubs for 2007-2008
Prescott Mile High Middle School is once again offering after school programs for our students this year. After school clubs will be made available to anyone interested in joining. Membership fee is $5.00* per student per club and students may join at anytime during the year. All afternoon clubs meet at 3:30 and run for approximately one hour unless otherwise specified. arrow Cartoon Club - Art teacher Amanda Chartier will be leading a cartoon club every Thursday after school in the art room (317) from 3:15 – 4:15. The cost is only $3.00. The first day of the Cartoon Club will be Thursday November 15th. We hope to see you there!!

arrow Christian Club - The Christian Club will meet in room 311 every Wednesday after school. This year’s sponsor is Clayton Whitted, a former PHS student. If you have any questions, Mrs. Davidson will be happy to answer them.

arrow Harmony Habitat Club – Harmony Habitat Club – Two science teachers from PMHMS received a heritage grant from AZ Game and Fish to construct a native habitat for fish and an accompanying garden of native and specialty plants. The pond and garden project, named the Harmony Habitat Club, meets every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 with sponsor Mrs. Freund. We are currently working on the garden in a 1000-square-foot triangular shaped area between the 6th and 7th grade halls on our downtown campus. We hope that the habitat will be used as an outdoor classroom by our students, and become the home and visiting spot for many animals in our community.

Acoustic Guitar Club – Social Studies teacher Ray Sommer continue once again this year with the Acoustic Guitar Club. Every Tuesday from 3:30 – 4:30 he will be teaching students the fundamentals of playing the acoustic guitar. Students and their instruments will meet with Mr. Sommer’s in room 105. Acoustic Guitar Club will begin in the late fall.

Woodworking Club – Instructional Assistant Ed Nemeth will be continuing a new and exciting club at PMHMS this year. Students will learn the fundamentals of woodworking to include safety and proper handling of hand and some power tools. Students will apply their knowledge by working on and completing a jewelry box. Due to the cost of materials, Woodworking Club will have a fee of $10.00* due at the onset of class. Intermediate level students will meet in Mr. McPherson’s tech room 439. Meetings will be held on Tuesday’s 3:30 – 5:00 and Wednesday’s from 1:30- 3:00. Beginning level students meet Thursday’s from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Volleyball Club – Shelly Baker is the club sponsor for girl’s volleyball. The club is open to any 6 th, 7th, or 8th grade student who is not currently on PMHMS volleyball team and interested in building volleyball skills. The club will meet in the girl’s gym Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. for the duration of the regular volleyball session.

arrow Forensic Science Club - While participating in hands-on forensic labs, students will learn to follow proper scientific method, will have to use deductive reasoning and problem solving skills to develop theories as to the evidence’s relation to the crime as a whole. Students will be working independently and as a team where communication and critical analysis will be crucial in developing a “concrete solution that stands the test of legal scrutiny”. Students will increase their awareness of the role of science in our legal system by giving them a better understanding of technology and skills.

Students will gain a better understanding of the procedures and rules that police must follow when working a crime scene including but not limited to: 1.Crime scene analysis 2.Crime scene management 3.Rules of evidence collection and preservations

Science teacher Ms. Freund will hold the CSI Forensic Science Club every Monday from 3:15—4:15 in room 304.

Karing is Kontagious – Life skills teacher Carol Blakey will be heading a community service club Karing is Kontagious. The club members will focus on philanthropic projects such as working with the Pioneer Home, nursing homes and the local soup kitchen. K.I.K. will be open to all grades and we will meet on Tuesday’s at 3:15 – 4:00 p.m. in room 315. We look forward to seeing you there!

Diversity in Action - Ms. Sharp will head Diversity in Action on Tuesdays in room 312. It is a group of students committed to finding a positive voice through which minority issues can be communicated and to educate the larger community about the unique features of minority populations. Students will also become involved in a community service project that addresses the needs of minorities in the area.
