PUSD KINDERGARTEN e-NEWS

Dear Parents,
As a point of clarification to the February 25th e-News, you may register your incoming kindergarten student this week if you currently have a child attending the registering school in grades K-4. The purpose of the early registration is to keep siblings together in the same school.
General registration begins next Monday, March 3. It is important to remember that Arizona’s Open Enrollment law mandates that all Arizona school districts allow transfers between schools and school districts based on space availability. With this is mind, parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible, beginning March 3. Because of the open enrollment law, students are granted enrollment in a school based on the following priorities (enrollment is always dependent upon space available at the school, as well as day and time of registration):
1. New students living in attendance area granted enrollment immediately
2. New in-district (but out-of-attendance-area) students granted placement March 10
3. New out-of-district students registering March 3 - May 27 granted school placement May 28

Good Morning Parents,
The next week will be a very busy one as we head into our 2008-2009 registration!
Our final two February Kindergarten Open Houses are scheduled for this week: Washington School on Tues., Feb. 26, 6-7 pm; and Lincoln School on Thurs., Feb. 28, 6-7 pm.
Sat., March 1, is our School Fair. This is the biggest district event of the year. I highly encourage you to stop by and visit the school booths. Your children will love having their faces painted by our PHS art students and we will have choirs performing throughout the morning. It’s a wonderful collaboration of all our schools and programs. Good Morning Parents,
I’d like to remind you of our February kindergarten open houses, which begin this evening at Taylor Hicks School. This is a special time for you and your preschooler to meet our teachers and visit our school facilities. Following is the complete schedule (all open houses are scheduled for 6-7 pm):

Another upcoming event is our annual School Fair at Gateway Mall. This year’s event will take place on Sat., March 1, from 10 am to 6 pm. We will have school and program exhibits throughout the mall, as well as performances, arts and crafts, face painting and more. Registration for 2008-09 begins the Monday after School fair. Good Morning Parents,
We want to inform you of specific registration procedures for your child for the 2008-2009 school year.
Incoming kindergarten studentswith siblings currently attending a PUSD school may register the week of February 25-29, 2008. General registration for 2008-2009 will begin on March 3, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. Please go to your neighborhood school or school of choice to register. Bring your child’s immunization records and birth certificate. You will be given a packet to complete at the school, including enrollment form, home language questionnaire, special needs questionnaire, immunization record sheet and student health survey.

With this is mind, parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible, following the dates above. Because of the open enrollment law, students are granted enrollment in a school based on the following priorities:

At the time of registration, parents will schedule an appointment for kindergarten screening, to be held at appointed times May 7-14. The screening is not an entrance exam. It is to provide information for our teaching staff’s instructional purposes.

Good Morning,
Welcome to the first communication of the Prescott Unified School District Kindergarten e-News.
Children who turn five years of age before September 1, 2008, are eligible for kindergarten in the 2008-09 school year. Kindergarten registration will begin March 3, 2008, at the individual elementary schools. We will be sending more information in the coming weeks.
Each year, we schedule open house dates for incoming kindergarten parents and their children to visit the schools. This is your chance to visit the classrooms and school facilities and to meet the school’s kindergarten teachers. We hope you will be able to attend one or as many as you would like. Here are the dates and times:
