In Consideration of: Allowing the use of the Bus Radio program on Prescott Unified School District buses for the 2007-2008 school year.
Submitted by: Dr. Chris Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent
Relevant Information:
Currently our buses play the radio as they transport students. This program offers a uniform approach that is geared to the level of the students.
• A national radio show delivered exclusively to school buses nationwide.
• The program is free and provides students with age appropriate content and entertainment while riding the bus.
• The district receives state of the art Bus Radio equipment free of charge.
• Current radios in all of our buses have a poor quality selection of programs to choose from.
• It is virtually impossible to listen to commercial radio for thirty minutes without being offended by songs or DJ talk.
• Bus Radio entertains the students while virtually eliminating concerns of inappropriate music, DJ talk and commercials. 98% of the students who experienced Bus Radio want it to continue.
• It removes the need to change radio stations, resulting in less distraction for the driver.
• During the 2007-2008 school year Bus Radio will have one million students in seventy-five school districts with 10,500 buses and growing.
• Sample of remuneration to Prescott Unified School District (attached).
• Media research on Bus Radio (attached).
• Feedback (attached).
• Suggested contract (attached).
Exhibits:
Bus Radio information packets and a proposed five-year agreement will be delivered to Governing Board members for review at a later date.
