Rationale:
The district only allows vendors to contact employees through our
employee fair at convocation.
Farmers Insurance allows a discount for school district
employees. For Farmers
Insurance to participate in this fair, a resolution must be approved by
the Governing Board.

Consideration
of: Approving an out-of-state travel request for the Prescott
High School Girl’s Basketball Team to attend the San Diego Girls
Basketball Classic, July 19-22, 2001.

It is recommended that the Governing Board approve this item.
Rationale:
According to policy, the Governing Board must approve all
out-of-state travel.
Relevant
Data and Exhibits:
The high school Girl’s Basketball team would travel to San
Diego on July 19th and return home late on the evening of
July 22nd. This
is an annual event, which the Lady Badgers have participated in for a
number of years. Close to
300 teams participate in this tournament from all over the western
United States.
The cost of the trip is being funded by the
proceeds of the Lady Hoops Basketball Camp and by the parents
themselves. Mr. Kelly
Cordes and Mr. Rick Carbone will be the attending coaches and will
supervise all activities.
This request is in accordance with applicable
AAAA Conference and Arizona Interscholastic rules, as well as Governing
Board policy.

Arizona Arts Standards.

The following are continuation grants which have been awarded to
Prescott Unified School District No. 1:
21st
Century Community Learning Centers Grant (CASA – Community After
School Activities) submitted by Mrs. Mary Anne Kapp (Renewal Grant)
The
21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant provides funds
to support Community After School Activities at seven school sites in
the Prescott and Chino Valley School Districts.
These programs provide safe places for children to go to
participate in homework and enrichment activities for skills
development. (Please refer
to Enclosure #11.)
School-Based
Parenting Initiative submitted by Mrs. Mary Anne Kapp (Renewal
Grant)
The
School-Based Parenting Programs Initiative partners are the Arizona
Parents Commission on Drug Education and Prevention, the Arizona
Department of Education and the Governor’s Division of Drug Policy.
This grant provides the Common Sense Parenting Program for
families to increase academic achievement and reduce disciplinary
problems for students Pre-K through 12th grade.
This grant will provide 14 cycles with six sessions each.

Capacity
Building Grants for Improved Student Reading submitted by Mrs. Mary Anne
Kapp (Renewal Grant)
Teachers
will be trained to meet the reading decoding and comprehension needs of
special education and high-risk students in grades 3 through 8.
Twenty-four teachers and instructional assistances were trained
during the 2000-2001 school year and an additional 50 are expected to
train during the 2001-2002 school year.
This grant will expand the mentoring and coaching opportunities
for regular classroom and special education teachers implementing the
Soar To Success Program. It
is anticipated that 105 elementary students and 225 intermediate and
middle school students will be impacted during the 2001-2002 school
year. (Please refer to
Enclosure #13.)
16.
Mrs. Mary Anne Kapp has been appointed to serve on the IASA
Committee of Practitioners (COP) for a three-year term ending in June of
2004. The COP, meeting four
times during the school year, will review proposed or final regulations
or policies for Title I. This
committee is also consulted in determining the State of Arizona’s
definition of adequate yearly progress.
