Reading Rocks, Math Rules
Math Rules
At Abia Judd, we strike the perfect balance between the computational and conceptual approaches to teaching math.
Students are drilled in number facts, arithmetic, and operations. However, our teachers are also trained to use hands-on manipulative approaches to math which help students relate math to real-world activities. Students learn set theory, patterns, and practical applications through problem solving.
Reading Rocks
Starting in Kindergarten, Abia Judd students learn to read using an innovative program called "Land of the Letter People." It combines phonics, letter recognition, and sight vocabulary with rich, enjoyable literature lessons.
Primary grade student use a leveled book approach which targets the reading level of individual students and helps each child grow in reading according to mastery of concepts. Our reading library is a model for the district!
Intermediate students spend time reading quality works of literature targeted at their reading abilities.
All our students in grades 2-5 use a library, computerized program called Accelerated Reader which has thousands of leveled library books for the students to read according to their interests and then provides computerized comprehension tests.
