Dress Code
Appearance and hygiene must not disrupt the orderly educational process. In general, clothing must not be too revealing or allow undergarments to show.
Clothing should allow free movement for normal classroom and playground activities. Our dress code is similar to the codes at both the middle and high school except where it is adjusted for the age of the students.
Tops- Tops that are not allowed include: Halter, tube, half shirts, tops with holes or slits, low cut tops in front or back, see through, shoulder-less, spandex bathing suit, bare midriffs, or spaghetti straps. Tank tops may be worn if the shoulder straps are at least 1” and the armholes are not baggy.
Shorts, Pants, and Skirts- Items that are not allowed include: shorts or skirts that are so short that students are immodest or cannot move freely without exposure of undergarments. Shorts or pants are not allowed that are so baggy as to expose undergarments or are not able to be worn at the waist.
Hats- Hats may be worn to school and on the playground however hats may not be worn inside the building.
Make-up- Make-up is inappropriate in an elementary school and will not be allowed.
Slogans and Art Work- Any written or graphic design that advertises or depicts drugs, alcohol or inappropriate language or activity is prohibited on any item.
Shoes- Shoes must be worn at all time. We recommend that students wear shoes that have backs and closed toes. Appropriate shoes must be worn for P.E.. Because P.E. is on a rotating schedule this year, it may be harder for parents to remember the days when children have P.E. so we recommend wearing shoes appropriate for P.E. at all times.
Students are required to maintain personal cleanliness and hygiene to the point where it does not interfere with their own or other students= learning.
In cases where the teacher or principal believes that clothing or hygiene violates the rules or causes disruption, the child will be given a dress code warning. On the second and subsequent offenses or serious violations of the dress code, parents will be called to correct the violation before the child can return to class.
Articles Prohibited at School
In general, students should not bring items to school that do not have a reasonable use for their course of study. Items prohibited from school are: valuables, large amounts of money, laser pointers, radios, tape/cd players, electronic games, and personal toys unless approved by the teacher or office.
Students may not have cell phones at school without permission from the principal. The school does not assume responsibility for personal items lost or stolen from school.
