Attendance

Abia Judd StudentsAbsences
Research shows that there is a strong correlation between good attendance in school and greater academic success. Attendance and punctuality are so important that the Prescott Unified School District has made it a goal to have students at school, On Time-All the Time. In elementary schools, parents are the key players in reinforcing the habits of good attendance and punctuality. We urge parents to do all you can to make sure your children arrive promptly every day and stay for the entire day without interruption. Not only is it important to learning, but it is an important skill for success in life and in future employment.

If your child will be absent from school, please call the school at 717-3263 to report the absence and the reason. We attempt to make contact with the parents of any absent student who has not called us. That is a safety measure to verify that parents know that your children are not at school. You can also report
an absence by email at: rachel.fisher@prescottschools.com.

ARRIVING LATE
Students arriving late to school must check in at the office before reporting to class. If arrival will be after 9:00, and the student plans to eat a hot lunch, you must call the school to let us know. We must call in our lunch count to the central kitchen by 9:00. The office will keep track of student tardiness. If your child will be tardy, please come in to check your child in at the office or write a note excusing the tardiness. Otherwise, the child will receive an unexcused tardy. Tardies will be recorded by both the office and classroom teacher. If a student has a chronic problem with tardiness, parents will be asked to confer with the teacher or principal.

LEAVING EARLY
Students who leave school before regular dismissal time must be checked out through the office by a parent. If someone other than a parent is picking the child up, parents should provide written notice to the school. Parents will be asked to sign the student out. The student will be called to the office. Please
do not go directly to the classroom to pick up your child. Just like with tardiness, leaving school early can disrupt the routine for a child as well as cause him/her to miss important information. Please make every effort to schedule activities or appointments outside of school time.
